This is coming from someone who spent 70 gold building a diving set, only to find that searching for treasure was never going to pay that 70 gold back. Sunken treasure is so rare and so hilariously worthless that there's no reason to waste your time looking for it. Right now the only way to make money diving is to find trade packs. Solo clipper fishing could be made viable by reintroducing craftable chum. While fishing you are stuck to one spot vulnerable to pirates, just trying to make your money back from the chum you spent to activate the fish.ĭidn't read the whole fishing part? Right now a clipper FULL of players fishing or a fishing boat is required to turn a profit. But otherwise you are striving to BREAK EVEN. If you have a fishing boat, or a bunch of friends fishing with you, great. If you paid 10 gold for the chum to start fishing, and you only pull in small fish, you will need 3 to break even. Now we'll talk about the rewards from sport fishing, especially starting out.Ī small (18k hp) bluefin tuna will bring you about 3.5-4.5 gold at the fish scale in Lutesong. Now you have to drop 1300-1700 badges PER chum, or drop up to 10 gold on the auction house to buy one from someone who did the same. You could take your fish that you caught from worms and cut them up, take them out to the ocean, and catch big fish. What actually happens, though, is that you quickly run out of vocation badges buying chum.Ĭhum used to be craftable. Bait worms cost more than the crappy small fish that you catch, but you do it anyway in hopes that in sport fishing you'll land a few big fish and go home with a bunch of gold, which CAN actually still happen under the current system. Starting with fishing, everyone who's tried it knows that you lose money starting out, which is fine. While they both have their merits, I think they need to be looked at and tweaked as ways of making a sustainable income, especially due to the high investment and challenge involved. Recently I've gotten into fishing and diving as my main sources of income.
